AfroPunk
I've been trying to see this documentary since last year when I first heard of it. I know they toured through some cities showing the film, but I might have missed the bay area cali tour. I can't wait to be able to own this movie. I definantly feel close to the afro punk movement. This would have been nice to see while I was stretching my lobes or getting my septum done.

hellz to da yeah!!!
i myself am in an all-black girl punk band based in dc!!! and dc has a dope afro-punk scene, by the way. i go into the punk bars with my congolese afro-punk boyfriend (check out my photo album to see what a punk-rock hottie he is!), and--what???--the bartender is a brotha with locks, holdin' it down! there is such community here in dc as far as we black punks are concerned, and it's a (black-is-)beautiful thang. anybody wanna come through dc when there's a black punk show going on, come on through, we'll go together! in fact, *tonight* tv on the radio is playing at the black cat. you know that's gonna be a scene! some of my vidographer friends (globaleyes productions) regularly document the dc afro-punk scene, too. i feel so blessed to be here feelin' this. check out eric roberson, a dc brotha whose music is like this wicked fusion of punk, rock, and neo-soul. as for the film, i still haven't seen it, but i have friends who own it so it's only a matter of time. black punks should have some regular meet-ups sometime--pick a city on a night there's gonna be some dope black punk show, and let's meet there and represent! punk rock, baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!! p.s. keke, girl... whenever we're in the same city, we gotta jam... |
