Yet another place for me to babble

Next month work is spending me for three weeks to various parts of the greater LA metro area.

This time around, it will be three days in Palm Springs doing an on-site training, then a week and a half at our new Sherman Oaks office. I don't know Southern California well at all. The vast majority of my time was spent around the 15/215 interchange when hitting Southern.

My questions are two, and two questions shall there be:

1 - What the hell is there to do in Palm Springs and/or Sh... read more

Um...

I'm engaged.

Jennie (maledictive here in Tribeland) and I cemented our relationship this last weekend, and we are officially betrothed.

We needed to discuss certain pertinent details with certain folk before making a public announcement, but those have been taken care of so here we are. There will be more to discuss later, but really this should be handled in person.

I promise I'll be more social in the immediate future. The inordinate amount of DUMB that was requi... read more

I'm off to commune in the dirt with the smelly hippies.

If any of you ingrates are also heading up to the sand party, come by and find me at Spike's Vampire Bar at 8:30 within Center Camp.

I'll also be working at Center Camp Cafe, at an as yet undetermined schedule.

See you in a week and a half...

A theme park is due to open in Southern England which is based upon the works of Charles Dickens.

news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070...MMhuRPMWM0F

It will be like Dickens Fair all year round. I am simultaneously excited, baffled, intrigued and utterly terrified out of my wits.

The only thing scarier and more awesome would be a theme park based off H.P. Lovecraft's work.

about me
Like any true geek I'm multi-faceted. Like a d-20.

My musical tastes run a wide gamut. I was raised with traditional folk music from all over the world, Scottish and Nordic folk being my current favorites. I raised myself with the Punk-Industrial-Goth trinity, and I identify more as a rivethead than anything else. I love Jazz in all it's myriad forms, with early string based jazz being my favorite. If I were alive in 1930's Paris, and.. y'know, a girl... I'd totally want to have Django Rhinehardt's babies.

Everybody says I'm a goth, even though I'm really not. I've done some modeling for art colleges and for my buddies who run www.sinistercandy.com and www.piratemod.com. I enjoy collecting schwag of bands I have seen perform live, but then that means that I wear entirely too many band and tour t-shirts. I get a perverse pleasure about wearing shirts for The Vandals and Grendel to medieval history seminar classes. I listen to waaaaaaay too much music and pay far too much attention to the history of the artists and the movements that influenced them. I get into arguments with people about the phylogeny and progeny of the whole Punk movement, citing artistic and academic sources to back me up... because I'm a huge nerd.

I am a huge nerd, especially about Apple computers. I keep my computers in pristine order but my computer desk is littered with papers and drink containers. Part of this is rooted in the same fact that I am currently taking certifications on my way to becoming an Apple Consultant and certified trainer. I also have seen every episode of Doctor Who ever made (yes even the new series). I spend far too much time on the intertubes.

Even though I'm a third generation American, I identify as of Scottish extraction and keep alive a knowledge of Scotland in myself. Plaid is my favorite color. I can speak in three latin languages, but I have no latin blood.

I have Dom Perignon tastes bound by a malt liquor income. I take it as a source of pride to be able to roughly place a single malt scotch's geographic home solely by it's nose.

I have degrees in archaeology and history. I know waaaay too much about British and Scottish history. I used to go to Renaissance Faires and Dickens Fair, and I spent entirely too much time and money on ensuring the historical accuracy of my costumes. For my undergrad honors thesis I wrote a historical archaeology of early medieval Hiberno-Saxon cultural and religious diffusion and survival. It's online at www.homepage.mac.com/worleybird if you're interested at all.

I'm a dancer of multiple disciplines, everywhere from Scottish Highland through various other folk styles styles, swing, ballet, and I'm even in a Cancan troupe.

Over all, I'm a skinny nerd with style and class. I rock in every possible way, and I'm far more humble than you can ever be. ;)

I pay the bill as an Apple Certified Trainer.

I'm going to be flying out to Austin, TX on monday. Then, I'll be spending approximately the first two weeks in December for work.

I've never been there before. Who here knows anything about Austin, and can recommend anything fun? I've heard from many people that there is a lot to do, but I have no clue where to start looking. :)

Looking for fun bars, restaurants, breweries, clubs, etc... Is there any equivalent to our illustrious sfgoth.com for Austin?

Yesterday was the one year anniversary of my first date with the love of my life Jennie. I know, it's been a whirlwind year, and things have moved amazingly fast.

We aren't wasting any time, yet it all seems perfectly natural and proper. We're looking at having our big ceremony in nearly exactly one year... maybe the weekend before Thanksgiving because that seems good for her school timing. It also is nice to have all of our anniversaries in the same time period.

:D

I keed, I keed...

Above is from a few months ago, and is one of the reasons I am most thankful to have Jennie in my life. We went out to a Japanese restaurant, and she ordered Soba. In a fit of silly schmoopiness, I grabbed a rice noodle from her bowl, wrapped it around her finger, and asked her if she would marry me.

She laughed, and said yes. We giggled together for a few minutes while the broth dribbled down her fingers. Then we ate the noodle.

It was the yummiest engagement ring I've ever eaten.

Clickie the pic for info on our nuptials, if you care. It's a bit sparse right now, but soon we will fill it in with more information about the particulars.

DOUG IS PRETTY....
OH SO PRETTY.
September 10, 2005
Sorry about the ice weasel thing. It could happen to anybody.

Seriously: Doug is cool. He comes from a line of cool people. His mom is cool despite having the lates major hurricane named after her (coincidence...or not?).
March 21, 2005
Not only is Doug a wonderfuly sweet and funny guy, but he is such a talented highland dancer as well. Rarely have I had so much fun watching someone else perform, that I forget to dance myself.
March 8, 2005
As you can tell from Doug's photo, he was a member of an Icelandic post-expressionistic punk band. This shot is from the publicity photos taken just before the ill-fated tour of Godthab, Greenland. I don't want to be too graphic about the tragedy; suffice to say that at night, the ice weasels came...
