I love you so.

Kyrka, from the Holy Road House to the Big Lebowski, and from Wakarusa to Interfuse, we continue to touch base and share our journeys with each other. You are full of wit and wisdom, talent and dedication, and you reflect an image for others to look up to. To know you is to know myself better. I'm grateful for our friendship. 333.

Happy birthday!!! I hope you had the best birthday ever out in BRC.
Digital hugs and spankings. -A May 7, 2007
I had the distinct honor and pleasure of being an Interranger with the one, the only Digital Air Conditioned Hippy Kyrka at Interfuse '07. He set the example for all of us. He checked out the parking downhill from OA, no matter how much it hurt climbing that hill. I know how much it hurt, because I went down there myself to check on the lock on Sunday a.m.
He's hardcore to the bone. I'd be honored to serve again with him, even if it's nothing more than to torment those Leisure Army guys again. ^Rhino September 17, 2006
kyrka is one helluva guy. and i say that with the utmost respect. getting to know him on the playa, and then seeing him in the default world has been a wonderful start to a great journey. and there is just something about his presence that makes you feel safe. (take him to a tool concert, dive into the thick of it, stand in front of him, and you'll find out) exemplary masculine protective. and he's got great stories. did you know that, right at sunset, after it goes beyond the horizon the sun makes a green flash? i didn't, until i met kyrka.

I doubt that he was interested in this kind of press, but here it is anyway. In case you're one that's been running off to facebook, and got sucked into games... congrats, just like me, you're part of why tribe started to suck. (I.E. we didn't give Marc money for tribe, so he's makin it from the other site you frequent.)

Yesterday, Jackson County voters "overwhelmingly" voted in favor of a renewal of the 1/4 cent Combat tax that funds drug enforcement activities throughout the county. 71% of yesterday's voters voted in favor of the tax. Unfortunately, less that 7% of the registered voters in the county actually made it to the polls to vote.

The vote was less an overwhelming showing in favor of the tax, and more of a completely overwhelming display of apathy. While publically the commissioners are celebrating victory, they should be a least a little concerned about the apathy that exists when it comes to crime and drug enforcement problems in the county. It is this apathy that has led this problem to be as large as it is, with little to no community involvement. But money is money. And in fact, they counted on our apathy. See, the tax renewal wasn't actually due for another 17 months. However, the county decided to spend $800,000 to put this on yesterday's ballot -- where there were no other issues -- knowing that the tax had a greater likelihood of passing with a low voter turnout. They were right. It passed. And there was a low voter turnout. Meanwhile the county spent $800,000 on holding a special election for just this tax, when it wasn't even due yet. The cost for the election was approximately $30 for every one of the 27,000 people who showed up at the polls yesterday. Ouch. Meanwhile, it is a sad state of affairs for the county when instead of trying to earn support of their programs and taxes, they'd rather drive and rely on voter apathy to get their programs passed -- even at a huge waste of taxpayer dollars. Let's hope now the county commissioners follow through with their promise to really analyze where the Combat Tax dollars go, and truly allocate them toward the most successful programs and weed out some of the ones that have not been as valuable to the community.
I'm shamelessly pulling a copy/paste from a favorite blog of mine this morning... and apologizing for being away from tribe so much. I let that other lame shit secude me.

Source: www.tonyskansascity.com/2009/0...ty.html ------------------- I was driving home last night and I saw a homeless dude asleep under a bridge and not even doing a good job of getting cash for himself. KC and other downtown interests have declared war on these folks and hired a few menial laborers to occupy the prime begging spots during the day but there's no way they could ever run all of the homeless off at night. [ www.kmbc.com/news/20889683/detail.html ] Looking at this poor guy asleep on the street I almost felt bad for taking his image which is probably the only thing he has left. Thinking about his predicament, how someone fell through the cracks in KC and is pretty much hopeless, inspired a strange bit of hatred for Kansas City politicos and all variety of careerists who claim an interest in this town. Looking at this dude on the street I realize that KC's chattering classes don't talk to these people because there's nothing to be gained from a conversation. Watching the guy for just a few seconds made me realize that pretty much every politico in this town, especially the Mayor, is worthless and they're only involved in this community for their own benefit. Did you know the "paper of record" hasn't had a poverty reporter for years? Murders on the Eastside aren't mourned, they're simply counted . . . And homeless people in KC are regarded as nothing more than a "visual blight" problem with little concern for their well-being. Political correctness, special interests and general apathy by the voting public have created a crop of some of the worst Kansas City politicos in a more than a generation . . . Really, I was thinking that most local elected officials aren't even worthy of scorn . . . They're mostly just a disappointment. Who knows, maybe a few politicos in this town start out with a genuine interest in representing their constituents or (God forbid) helping the less fortunate without a clear reward . . . But in the long run so many in this town find themselves powerless to do anything but help themselves and after awhile that becomes their priority. For just a second last night I realized that most (if not all) of Kansas City's powerful and elite are some of the most self-serving and despicable people in this town and their meaningless rhetoric is a cruel joke played on the rest of the populace left to fend for themselves or die in the street.
