She watched all of them in the darkness, light from a single lantern flicked across their muffed and scarved faces, gathered around a small pot bellied stove. She couldn't understand a word of it. The guteral rolls and flip of tongue seemed an impossibility, a high pitched youthful chatter filled the small room, carrying excitement and anticipation of the day, the year, the epoch. 1972.
