Hmmmm
Religion
Mon, October 15, 2007 - 9:41 AMGod never asked for your religion
She just meant to bless your life
With some basic rules for guidance
Away from hardship and strife
Her words have been abused and twisted
For the agenda of a few
Portrayed as jealous and spiteful
To manipulate you
God never asked for your religion
You are not required to give him praise
And if you use the mind he gave you
You won't be judged for lack of faith
He didn't make you in his image
That's a human vanity
Born from a human ego
To satisfy his needs
Tread lightly sons and daughters
Lightly woman and man
God's wisdom's more than anyone
Could ever completely understand
Stay humble and remember
You'll be held to what you do
It's your relationship with your God
And not your point of view.
God never asked for your religion
And she never told you to
Have hatred for others
Who do not see her as you do
To devalue another's life
Or be cruel in her name
Take retribution for her
And you'll be judged the same
God never asked for your religion
That concept's from the minds of men
Interpreted and expanded
With poetic license
You say the bible is the word of God
Part of his master plan
I find it hard to take verbatim
Written by the hand of man
Tread lightly sons and daughters
Lightly woman and man
God's wisdom's more than anyone
Could ever completely understand
Stay humble and remember
You'll be held to what you do
It's your relationship with your God
And not your point of view.
God never asked for your religion
And she really thinks it's time
You practiced what you preach
And keep yourself in line
Leave judgment to the higher power
Cause your the one committing sin
Her rules aren't for you to judge others
But to judge yourself within
Tread lightly sons and daughters
Lightly woman and man
God's wisdom's more than anyone
Could ever completely understand
Stay humble and remember
You'll be held to what you do
It's your relationship with your God
And not your point of view.
God never asked for your religion
Oh, but spirituality
Is a guiding light in your dark hour
To find the happiness you seek
Spirituality -yea! Spirituality!
I don't need your religion to guide me...
I've got spirituality.
