Three qualities that, in my opinion, are indispensable in a decent, interesting person:
1) Intelligence
2) Silliness
3) The ability to see and tell it like it is, even when it's tough.

when i think of the word "well rounded", i think of Spencer.
he's a southern white kid, and has an open mind. (refreshing, no?) he can hold his own in just about any gibberish fest. he can quote bad (and great, but mostly bad) movies for days. he digs the funk, embraces the funk, lays out the funk, and funks the funk. he is one of only 3 people that lets me in on Frank Zappa trivia that i don't already know. he talks like a black man with a lisp, a la Little Richard, WAY more often than he should. all of this, AND he could grill up the yellow pages, and every page would be delicious. there aren't many people that would fry an apple while wearing only underwear and an afro. thank the heavens there aren't many of those people. that said - thank you, Spencer. thanks for being one of "those people". Aah Favorite of favorites! I'll never forget you marchin out of the fog just after what might have been a sunrise, playin your snare, accompanied by a man with a tuba. And they think trance is psychedelic. Probably one of the strangest and most wonderful moments ever.

Sarah and I made the decision at the beginning of this month that we are moving back to LA. This has been my first experience leaving a densely and diversely populated city and I can say with a bit of conviction that it may well have been my last. In spite of the fact that I am leaving Riverside, I feel the goal I have set out toward is actually looking more and more likely (in the most unexpected ways) as I turn my eyes toward the city I love.

My 12th year took place with forty acres of forest in front of me, my father, and my mother's father in Alabama. My dad and I deforested half of it in a spring season, and fenced it that summer.
