about me
I love the outdoors - hiking, mushrooming, riding our tandem - and hope someday to live on the coast nearer the ocean. I study and (occasionally teach) esoteric Taoism - moving energy (chi kung) including sexual practices. I'm reasonably handy and can build things – like walls and roofs and sleeping lofts, I have a fairly green thumb too. Mostly these days I’m too busy to work much with my hands, and changing that is one of my big goals for the future. I'm quite a good beer brewer, a bit of an herbalist, amateur mycologist, and I've taken chemistry courses at night.
I'm quite well read – I love to read all kinds of things – from murder mysteries set in medieval china to history to “how to” books. I’m fascinated by ancient history. I read about two books a week. Politically I'm closest to being a libertarian – I think we have too little freedom from our government – but I’m also fairly pragmatic from day to day.
In my free time I teach courses on sensuality & orgasm – something I’ve been studying since 1989.
I lived in Japan for three years and have a profound love for many things Japanese and have a third degree black belt (though I haven’t trained in over 10 years). I'm a good shot with a pistol and a rifle and am an NRA certified instructor. Our latest passion is cycling, we have a tandem (a bicycle built for two) and it’s a blast! I'm trying out Bikram yoga.
My life revolves around Oceana – she is my highest priority – and I believe (with reason) that giving her everything she wants is the shortest path to the most magical life I can have. We live in a communal house in the Oakland and are always interested in finding more people who want to live communally. Our ideas are based on being as nice and as loving to each other as possible, and concensus decision making within the group. We believe that living in a group is the best way to have the highest quality of life with the highest standards of living with the least effort. We believe that living together is a learnable skill and we have taken courses and done research in this area.
We are looking for more friends. Our goal is that one (or more) of our friends might become such a good friend that she becomes part of our family.
I love classic cocktails – a well made margarita is alchemy in a glass, getting the perfect balance of sweet and tart and flavors, and what can you say about a drink with a name like “gin and sin?” You can see our cocktail research at cocktailsat80.blogspot.com I'm also beer connoisseur and enjoy the kinds of beer you can cellar and age like wine – we have a cellar full of aging barley-wine and I am learning to brew my own beer. Oceana is our wine expert, and I’ve written the beer and tea sections of her beverage newsletters.
We have two diesels - an 84 mercedes that runs on SVO (waste vegetable oil) and an '02 VW that runs on biodiesel
Oh, to pay the rent I do sales and project management for an offshore research firm that is growing 6% a month.
